A church promoting school choice is enlisting the help of a gospel heavy-hitter to empower parents to take control of their children’s education.
Bishop Marvin Sapp is headed to Tulsa, Oklahoma in support of education improvement efforts in the city.
Metropolitan Baptist Church and Tulsa C.A.R.E. Alliance are bringing in the big-name gospel singer to draw in the community and promote the benefits of school choice.
According to a study by Metropolitan Baptist Church, approximately 5,000 Tulsa students are attending underperforming schools, reports Tulsa’s ABC 8. The organizers are hoping to encourage parents to advocate for their children, seek out better alternatives to failing schools and help secure their educational future.
“Our schools today are not serving all children equally. There are some children that are in schools that are continuing to struggle,” said Pastor Ray Owens of the Metropolitan Baptist Church, while promoting the free concert happening Friday, January 15th at the Mabee Center on the Campus of Oral Roberts University.
