It has truly been yet another exciting and event filled weekend for the 1230AM WDBZ family and Radio One Cincinnati staff and crew as we took time to celebrate at the 22nd Annual Midwest Regional Black Family Reunion at Sawyer Point. It’s the type of family gathering you must attend if you’re anywhere near the city or still a resident of the midwest. Why? It’s simple and believe it or not, we’re only one of two cities to host this event in the nation.
This year’s highlights included the vast array of local acts to take the stage before our legendary headliners Rose Royce and Regina Belle. The weekend was full of family oriented entertainment. There were tons of food vendors providing the best in good old fashioned country soul cookin’ including signature Jamaican recipes and Latin-influenced spins on those classic dishes you’d just salivate over even at the sound of them roasting on the grill, frying on the skillet and baking in the oven.
Hanging out at Sawyer Point this year was like coming together with those long lost aunts, uncles and cousins you haven’t seen in years only to suddenly remember all the fun you’ve had the last two decades. Shopping, singing, dancing, live radio broadcasts, cash and prize giveaways, great food and the list goes on and on. What more could you ask for? Even in the first round of surprise rain and showers, the people still came out to have a good time and get a quick little tan in the sun – and all for free!
